Caution Changing these settings can halt communications with your mobile device or make them unreliable. If you experience problems, use these procedures to change your baud rate back to the default speed of 19200.
1 Disconnect the mobile device cable.
2 Change the baud rate on your device.
3 Close all device programs and reset the device according to the manufacturer's instructions, and then turn on the device.
4 If you are using Windows NT:
a On your desktop computer, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
b Double-click the Modems icon.
c Select an entry (if any) named Dial-Up Networking Serial Cable between 2 PCs, and then click Properties.
d Set the Maximum speed to the same rate you specified on your mobile device, and then click OK.
e Repeat steps c and d for each Dial-Up Networking Serial Cable between 2 PCs entry.
If you are using Windows 95:
a On your desktop computer, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click the System icon.
b Click the Device Manager tab, double-click Modem, and then select the COM port that is connected to your mobile device.
c Click Properties, click the Modem tab, and then under Maximum Speed select the same rate that you specified on your device.
If you are using Windows 98:
a On your desktop computer, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click the System icon.
b Click the Device Manager tab, and select View devices by type.
c Click the plus sign by Modem.
d Select the COM port you are using to connect your device to your computer, and click Properties.
e Click the Modem tab, and, from the Maximum Speed list, select the same rate that you specified on your device.
6 Close all desktop programs, and then restart your desktop computer.
7 Open the Mobile Devices window, and reconnect the mobile device cable.
Note If your desktop computer supports a speed higher than 19,200 bps, it is likely that 38,400 bps will give you the best performance. However, setting the rate higher than 38,400 may slow down, rather than speed up, overall data transfer speed. You should experiment with different rates to determine the optimal setting for your desktop computer and usage patterns.
